Frequently Asked Questions

How long can I store my mayonnaise once it’s opened?

The Best When Used By Date on your container is the date that assures the product’s optimum quality and freshness. We recommend that you use your product by this date.

Is the date on the mayonnaise label an actual expiration date for an unopened jar?

We recommend that you use the product by the date marked on the container. This is the date that assures the product's optimum quality and freshness.

Are Best Foods™ mayonnaise products gluten free?

Best Foods™ products are produced using Ingredients which naturally do not contain Gluten, and several product labels include a gluten free claim. Products labeled as gluten free are made from ingredients that do not contain gluten nor do they come in contact with gluten during processing. Common ingredients that may contain gluten are (i.e., wheat flour, rye, barley, oats, and malt). Malt is a barley based ingredient.

What’s the best way to store my mayonnaise? Can I freeze it?

All Best Foods™ products should be refrigerated after opening. The best place in your refrigerator is inside the door compartments. Prior to opening any Best Foods™ products, they can be stored in a cool dry place.

Storage conditions (temperature) will affect product quality. High temperatures will accelerate the loss of fresh flavor and exposure to near freezing temperatures can change the consistency, texture, and thickness and may cause separation. Therefore we do not recommend freezing.

Baked goods and casseroles using Real or Light mayonnaise can be made ahead and frozen. Dips and salads made with mayonnaise are poor candidates for freezing as they will lose their creamy texture.

Are your jars recyclable?

Yes, both our glass and plastic jars are recyclable.

Can I bake with Best Foods™ mayonnaise?

For years, Best Foods™ real mayonnaise has been known as a baking ingredient, particularly in chocolate cake. Like butter or margarine, our real mayonnaise contains about 80% oil. It is an excellent shortening and produces rich, moist baked goods.Light mayonnaise can be used in the same way as real mayonnaise as a baking ingredient.

For best results, use recipes specifically developed for mayonnaise.

Are Best Foods™ mayonnaise products lactose-free?

At this time, all Best Foods™ mayonnaise products are lactose-free. Since product formulations change from time to time, the best advice we can give you is to check the ingredient list on the label for milk or dairy.
