  • 1 kg green lipped live mussels
  • 1 cup grated cheese
  • 1/2 cup Best Foods mayonnaise
  • 1/4 cup barbecue sauce
  • 1 tbsp hot sauce
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • black pepper
  • handful parsley finely chopped

Recipe Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 200°C. Check mussels and discard any that are broken. Heat a sauté pan or saucepan and once hot, tip in mussels along with 2 tablespoons water.

  2. Cover immediately and cook for 5-7 minutes on medium heat until mussels have opened. Discard any that do not open, tip into a colander to cool.

  3. While the mussels are cooking, mix the grated cheese, Best Foods mayonnaise, barbecue sauce, hot sauce and lemon juice in a bowl.

  4. After the mussels are cooked and cool enough to handle (just a few minutes), remove the top shells, beards and any pea crabs. Place the mussels (meat facing up) in a single layer on a baking sheet. Spoon a heaped teaspoon of the mayo-cheese mixture on top of each mussel.

  5. Bake for 10 minutes until golden and bubbly. Remove from oven and carefully place mussels onto a serving platter

  6. Season with freshly ground black pepper and sprinkle with chopped parsley. Serve immediately.
